2 Suspects In Custody After Ross Twp. Bank Robbery

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Two suspects are in police custody after a bank robbery and police chase that ended in a crash on Interstate 79 just north of Wexford Wednesday afternoon.

After an arduous chase, police arrested Mario Robinson, 24, of New Castle and Reagan Pierre, 20, of New Kensington.

Police say two men robbed the Fidelity Bank in Perrysville.

One of them showed a gun, according to police.

Det. Brian Kohlhepp, from Ross Township Police, says the suspects drove wildly on both Rochester Road and Mt. Nebo Road.

"There were several times where they almost drove cars off the road," said Det. Kohlhepp.

He says the suspects were also passing cars.

Ohio Township police spotted the suspect's vehicle and began chasing it.

Police say the getaway car hit a side barrier along Interstate 79 and crashed without hitting any other vehicles on the busy highway.

The suspects then ran on foot down over a hillside, where one was caught.

The other, however, made it a bit farther, according to police. They say someone spotted him in their backyard and called 911.

"They saw him in the backyard. Saw that he was exhausted and out of breath," said Det. Kohlhepp.

Police from several departments, including Ross Township, Ohio Township, Franklin Park, Evans City and State Police, responded to the chase, along with canine officers.

They searched a hillside along the highway for a gun but didn't find one.

However, they did recover some of the money from the robbery. Police say the suspects had it on them.

Robinson and Pierre are currently in the Allegheny County Jail and face possible charges of federal bank robbery, as well as fleeing and eluding police.
