Road Rage Blamed In New Castle Fatal Shooting
NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- A New Castle man has died and police are now searching for a black vehicle following a shooting late Tuesday night in Lawrence County.
The New Castle Police Department has identified the victim as 31-year-old Gordon Rees, Jr.
The shooting happened at 10:20 p.m. on Williams Street near Acorn Street on the east side of the city, investigators said.
"Guy stops the car, gets out, they exchange a couple more words concerning his driving, guy pulls out a handgun and shoots Rees in the chest," New Castle Police Chief Tom Sansone said.
The friend who was with Rees spoke to KDKA-TV. He did not want to be identified.
"I'd have to say he was going 70-80 miles per hour and he clipped the back of Gordy's leg," he said.
"And Gordy turned around, yelled at him and said, 'Slow the [expletive] down!'
"The guy stopped. He looked out his window and then he and Gordy walked down and starting just saying, 'Why the hell are you going so fast? You hit me!'
"The guy pulled out a gun and told him to back up. And Gordy said, 'If you're going to shoot me, then just shoot me,'" the friend recalled.
Gordy suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at Jameson Hospital.
According to the New Castle Police Department, they are looking for a black Chevy Cavalier with tinted windows.
They say it was possibly being operated by an African American male who was wearing his hair in braids and had some facial hair.
Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact the New Castle Police Department at 724-656-3585.
