Suspect Shatters Door With Brick, Burglarizes Pet Shop
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police are reviewing surveillance video from a pet store in Regent Square after a man parked in front of the store tossed a brick through the glass door, went inside and got away with the cash drawer.
The incident happened this morning at the Animal Nature Store on Forbes Avenue.
Co-owner Rachel Lamory said, "It's frustrating because my business partner and I put out heart and soul into this place, and for both of us, it's everything we ever wanted."
The locally-owned shop sells natural pet food and other animal products, as well as several small animals - some from animal rescue organizations, including chickens, guinea pigs, cats, rats and a rabbit.
Lamory says when she arrived at the store Thursday morning after learning of the break-in, she and her partner checked to make certain the animals were still there, and were all okay.
They were all safe and unhurt.
Before the burglary, the store had been robbed twice at gunpoint.
Lamory told KDKA-TV'S Ralph Iannotti: "It's hard to love something so much, and see it violated so many times."
The surveillance video shows the suspect first trying to gain entry to a restaurant and bar next door, and then getting inside the store after smashing the pet shop's glass door.
