Suspect Runs Down Walmart Greeter With Cart, Leads Police On Chase
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man accused of stealing from a Walmart in Lawrence County, pushing a store employee and then leading police on a chase is now in custody.
Union Township Police say 19-year-old Jordan McMullen is facing a laundry list of charges after trying to steal $200 worth of window decal stickers from Walmart, pushing a 72-year-old man to the ground and then leading police on a high-speed chase.
It happened after 4 p.m. Wednesday when authorities say McMullen tried to get away with the goods.
Police say the Walmart greeter tried to stop him, but McMullen is accused of pushing the man down, breaking his hip.
According to investigators, McMullen then got into his car and led at least six Union Township and New Castle police cruisers on a high-speed chase through New Castle.
Police say McMullen slammed into a New Castle police officer's cruiser and kept going until he then reached Center Avenue in Taylor Township.
It was there that he hit a seven-foot tall pile of dirt and went airborne. Police took him to the hospital where he was released Wednesday night and taken into police custody.
When asked why he did it, authorities reported that McMullen said he was scared. He said he was sorry for what he did and is praying for the 72-year-old man.
The Walmart greeter is set to undergo surgery Thursday morning. The police officer who was in the cruiser McMullen hit is okay.
