Suspect Killed During Attempted Penn Hills Home Invasion
PENN HILLS (KDKA) – Police are investigating after one person was killed during an apparent home invasion in Penn Hills Wednesday morning.
According to police, the incident happened at a home on Edinburg Drive around 7:30 a.m.
It all began when three young men rolled up to the curb.
"They came and went into this house, through the garage door when the homeowner came back from dropping her children off at school," said Assistant Superintendent James Morton, of the Allegheny County Police.
With the lower part of their faces masked, the men followed the wife up the basement stairs where they were confronted by her husband.
"Once they get in there, there was a very violent struggle," said Morton.
"Where they assaulted the homeowners; the homeowners were able to fend off the intruders," added Lt. Andrew Schurman, also of the Allegheny County Police.
The body of one of the men was spotted by passersby on the front porch of the home. The two other intruders ran out, driving off in a black, newer-model Chrysler 300.
Kevin Barefoot believes his neighbor is a power lifter.
"I would not want to tangle with him myself, even if I had two other people with me," said Barefoot.
"The homeowners are cooperating 100 percent," Morton added.
As crime scene investigators combed through the homeowners Chevy Malibu, a gun was recovered. The fatally wounded intruder had a mustache, goatee and no identification.
Police really need to know who he is.
"Right now, we don't have a very clear cut motive," added Schurman.
