Suspect In Homewood Police Shooting In Court On Escape Charges
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The 24-year-old man accused in a shooting and physical altercation that left two Pittsburgh police officers injured earlier this month was in court today for a hearing on escape charges.
James Hill faced a preliminary hearing in district court in Turtle Creek.
Hill is accused of shooting and critically wounding Officer Morgan Jenkins after a brief vehicle pursuit, crash and a physical altercation.
It happened in the early morning hours of April 11 in the area of Apple Street in Homewood. Jenkins' partner was also injured.
But today's hearing was for Hill's alleged escape from the Gateway Corrections Center in Braddock last April.
He is facing more serious charges though in connection with the shooting.
There was a heavy police presence at today's hearing as more than a dozen officers showed up, including Officer Michelle Auge, who is Jenkins' partner.
She suffered several broken fingers in the incident.
Meanwhile, sources say Jenkins remains paralyzed from the waist down. His uncle says that the family is still hopeful that he'll regain the ability to reuse his legs.
He is expected to remain hospitalized for the next few weeks.
Hill's hearing for the shooting is scheduled for July 11 at Pittsburgh City Court.
