Suspect In Convenience Store Robbery Caught On Surveillance Video
NEW STANTON (KDKA) -- Police are looking for a man who was captured on surveillance video robbing a local convenience store.
The robbery happened shortly after 2 a.m. at the Sunoco in New Stanton. Now, police need the public's help to identify the suspect.
Surveillance video shows the suspect rush in the front door and approach the young clerk as he's changing a coffee filter.
"When he ran into store, he displayed what would be considered a box cutter type weapon -- that's what he used to threaten the clerk," said Trooper Steve Limani, of the Pennsylvania State Police.
The suspect then forces the clerk behind the counter, and while the clerk gets money out of the register, the suspect crouches down apparently trying to stay out of view.
The clerk told police the suspect yelled that he wanted more money, and forced the clerk to open another drawer.
The clerk said he feared he was going to be stabbed.
"It was very violent," said Trooper Limani. "The fact that the person sprints in, heads right for the attendant and physically starts to assault him is very alarming to us."
The clerk was not injured and the suspect got away with a small amount of money.
Police say with surveillance images they're confident the suspect will soon be in jail.
The suspect is described as an African American man, with a medium build and deep voice. He was wearing all black at the time. If you recognize him, you should contact state police.
