Suspect Arrested In East Hills Fatal Shooting
EAST HILLS (KDKA) - A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in the East Hills last month.
According to police, the incident happened around 6:20 p.m. in the 2100-block of Park Hill Drive on July 31.
At 24 years old, Derrick Lyman's life came to an end after being shot at the Maple Ridge Apartments in the East Hills. Since that day, his family has been looking for answers as to who was responsible for taking his life.
On the red door to the apartment, are written memorials to the man they called "Rick Blood."
On Aug. 2, police obtained an arrest warrant for 22-year-old Rayshawn Williams. On Aug. 5, police determined that Williams was in the 7400-block of Monticello Street.
Officers responded to the location and arrested Williams without incident.
"I'm glad they caught him. I'm glad they caught him," Pam Ubanks said.
Ubanks lives in the Maple Ridge Apartments. She's also the grandmother of Lyman's unborn grandchild.
"He was really, really a good guy. He [has] a kid and another on the way," Ubanks said.
Ubanks' pain over Lyman's murder is bare. Her anger toward Williams is equally as obvious.
"He ran up here, all these kids [were] outside and he had no feelings or worries about hitting anybody else," Ubanks said. "He killed the wrong man and there's a lot of crap going on because of it. People's houses are getting riddled up with bullets who don't have nothing to do with nothing because he killed that man."
The capture of her daughter's boyfriend's alleged murderer brings some relief. He's off the street, but that's where any positive feelings end. Violence has brought more violence and nothing has been solved.
"Nobody can talk to Ricky. Ricky can't talk to us, but that man can still do whatever he wants to even though he locked up," Ubanks said. "So there is no justice. Yes he's caught. I'm glad he's caught, but there is still no justice because it's not bringing him back here."
Williams is in the Allegheny County Jail facing homicide charges.
