Surveillance Video Released In Local Man's Death At Tampa Airport

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's been more than a week since a local man was found dead at the bottom of an elevator shaft at the airport in Tampa.

But there's now a new clue to the mystery of how he died - surveillance video.

At first, police thought they were dealing with a disappearance, but the case later became a bizarre death at Tampa International Airport last Friday.

The body of 31-year-old Chad Wolfe, from West Newton, Westmorland County, was found in an elevator shaft 10 hours after he vanished.

Now, newly-released surveillance footage shows the final moments of Wolfe's life, and the video only adds to the mystery surrounding what happened.

You can see Wolfe walking with his girlfriend and sipping something from a small bottle. Police say he was acting erratically and appeared to be intoxicated.

A short time later, he grabs onto a tree in the airport lobby. Later, the couple gets on separate elevators. For some reason, Wolfe went to the seventh floor of the parking garage, while his girlfriend went to baggage claim. That's the last time anyone saw Wolfe alive.

Authorities are now waiting on toxicology reports to determine if alcohol played a role in his death.

"He had a little bit to drink on the airplane, and I also guess he also had some Xanax in his system to fly out," said Bob Young, Wolfe's uncle. "I am just baffled why he went up to the seventh floor."

It was determined that the lock on one of the elevator doors was broken. They don't know if the locking mechanism malfunctioned or if Wolfe tampered with it before falling to his death.

Wolfe came to Tampa International Airport shortly after midnight Friday with his girlfriend. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, and they were heading to Daytona Beach for bike week.
