Surveillance Video Aids In Successful Hill District Drug Sweep
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police used surveillance video in an effort called Operation Clean Sweep to help rid the Hill District of drug activity.
All told, police made over 60 arrests over the past five months.
"Police arrested over 60 individuals over the last couple of months from drug trafficking," Pittsburgh mayor Luke Ravenstahl said Monday.
Police chief Nate Harper explained the success of the operation.
"Over 15 search warrants were executed," Harper said. "There was over $83,422 in U.S. currency. Eight firearms were seized, two vehicles (and) 27 ounces cocaine."
Along with getting drugs, guns and dealers off the streets, Operation Clean Sweep was intended to also get help for addicts in order to break the drug cycle.
Area residents are skeptical of the idea, but are hopeful successful results will follow a successful Operation Clean Sweep.
