Police Investigate Vehicle Break-Ins In Monroeville
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Authorities say surveillance video could also be key in solving an early morning crime spree in Monroeville that left more than a dozen cars damaged.
"It's a considerable amount of damage, in the thousands of dollars, felony level."
That's what the Assistant Chief Steven Pascarella, of the Monroeville Police Department, said about two people on bicycles who vandalized 18 vehicles.
Surveillance video shows the pair entering a four-story garage owned by Compunetix just before 1 a.m. The two were inside for about 90 minutes.
Police say they broke windows, and keyed and scratched vehicles.
A knife was found that police say they used; and the video shows the suspects were not wearing gloves, so police have fingerprints.
Compunetix is open 24 hours. Those whose vehicles were damaged were working the midnight shift.
The damage was discovered by a worker putting something in his car and realized it had been broken into and vandalized along with the others.
Police hope someone recognizes the clothing the suspects were wearing or their bicycles.
