Super Moon, Perseid Meteor Shower To Light Up Night Skies
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – If you're scared of the dark, you can fear a little less tonight.
Aug. 10 marks a super moon, making the moon appear much larger and brighter in the sky tonight.
According to NASA, the moon will be 30 percent brighter because it will actually be 14 percent closer to the Earth. It will be the brightest full moon of the year.
Stargazers can continue to delight for several days, as there Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights you'll be able to watch the Perseid meteor shower.
NASA says you can usually expect to see 100 Perseid each hour, but the super moon's brightness might make them a little more difficult to see.
According to EarthSky.org, the best time to watch is late night into dawn.
"The Perseids tend to strengthen in number as late night deepens into midnight, and typically produce the most meteors in the wee hours before dawn," the website says.
