Sunseri Earns Weekly Honors
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — It was a career night for Pitt quarterback Tino Sunseri Wednesday in a 35-20 drubbing of UConn, which provided for a banner start to the week.
Sunseri was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week for his 419-yard, 2-touchdown performance against the Huskies. He completed 29-of-42 passes (69 percent).
It was the best single-game performance by a Pitt quarterback in eight years, since Rod Rutherford threw for 419 yards against West Virginia in 2003. Sunseri set the Pitt single-game passing record for Heinz Field, surpassing Tyler Palko's 380 yards against Furman in 2004.
All told, Sunseri logged the fourth-best single-game passing effort in school history.
For his performance, Sunseri was also named a Manning Award Star of the Week. Fans can go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for the quarterback they think had the best performance from this past weekend. Voting closes on Thursday at 8 a.m. (ET)
