Successful Pirates Getting Lots Of Attention
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates have the best record in baseball.
"A winning baseball team, the excitement of it, I think it's fantastic," said Vinnie Richichi. "It's the vibe I got when I got here. The people were waiting for something like this to happen."
On the Vinnie & Cook Show on 93-7 The Fan, it's practically all Pirates, all the time.
There's a whole generation of kids, college kids, who can't remember when the… graduates that can't remember when the Pirates had a winning season, so good for them," said Ron Cook, of 93-7 The Fan.
Former Pirates' pitcher Steve Blass won three World Series games while wearing a Bucco uniform. He's been around for the good teams, but he's also suffered in the broadcast booth the last 20 years.
"It's exciting," said Blass. "I mean, I'm driving to the ballpark now and kids are playing catch out in the yard wearing McCutchen jerseys and Alvarez jerseys, and it reminds me of how good of a baseball town Pittsburgh really is."
Even the Cardinals' dedicated fans that traveled to Pittsburgh for this series, they're impressed.
"I've never seen it like this. The fans treat them great," said one Cardinals' fan. "They treat them real well and after what they've been through over the years, they're pretty good."
Yep, they're pretty good. And Pirates' fans are having a blast.
"You come to the ballpark and it's just, you're revved up," Blass added. "You're pumped up, the ball club is playing good, they're finding ways to win and it's a carnival around here."
