Hydrocarbon Spills Into River In West Elizabeth Twp.
WEST ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- One person was sickened after a chemical spill at the West Elizabeth Sanitary Authority.
Crews also evacuated the home next door after several thousand gallons of a hydrocarbon spilled.
Crews put a containment boom in the Monongahela River as a precaution.
The operator of the plant, who was sickened, was released from the hospital.
A spokesperson from the Department of Environmental Protection says Allegheny HAZMAT, the health department and the DEP are working to find the source of the problem.
They are taking air and water samples, but officials say there are no public health concerns.
