Strong Reaction Continues In Child Sex Abuse Case
STATE COLLEGE (KDKA) -- Whether you support Joe Paterno or think he should step down, reaction is strong on both sides of the issue.
David Dimmick says he is friends with Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley who has been arraigned on a perjury charge.
He says Curley was a student of his years ago.
"I sent him an email the other day and I said, you know, 'Tim, I'm praying for you, buddy, but if you made a mistake, life is full of choices and we have to live with our choices,'" he said.
Former Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky is accused of sexually abusing eight boys, although a ninth alleged victim has come forward.
He met all of them through The Second Mile charity he founded. One the door of the charity on Tuesday, a message was posted saying no one would do interviews. They also left a folder on the door with written statements.
As for Sandusky, Dimmick says, "His reputation was stellar. You know, what he did with The Second Mile – you know, we heard scuttlebutts eight, 10 months ago that there was something going on under the radar."
Some in the community surrounding the Penn State campus questioned whether Joe Paterno did enough to stop Sandusky's alleged abuse.
"He just passed the buck," a woman said.
And some also questioned the actions of the graduate assistant who claims he discovered Sandusky in the shower with the boy.
"Don't know if it was me walking in and I saw something like that, my first thing would probably be to try to save the kid," James Ekechuku, of Bellefonte, said.
