Stroke Survivor Cycles 5,000 Miles To Raise Awareness
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio1020 KDKA) - Sean Maloney was a high-powered technology executive of Intel and expected to climb the corporate ladder - until he suffered stroke.
That stroke claimed his ability to speak or use his right side.
Today - year years later - he joined Mangino and Shelley Duffy in studio for an interview on the KDKA Afternoon News to raise awareness and money for the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
"First thing, get your heart checked, if you have high blood pressure you have to check it out and that's what my, my blood pressure was just too high," Maloney said.
Heart Across America started March 22 from San Francisco and will finish in New York ,traveling a total of 5,000 miles.
He was in Pittsburgh and is on the last leg of his trip and his family will be meeting him in New York to finish strong.
"I wanted to do it and 5,000 miles and we've almost done and we will have done it," Maloney said.
Maloney has remained positive through his struggle and continues to encourage others.
"Tomorrow is better than yesterday right? You've got to keep up," Maloney said.
