Storms Cause Damage in Armstrong, Butler Counties
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Power is being restored to homes after storms caused outages Thursday evening.
The hardest hit areas included Apollo, Derry, Greensburg and Vandergrift.
Intense wind shredded the awning off of the BZ Mart in Apollo and shot it across the parking lot.
Ronnie Robinson was inside working, "It sounded more like a train." He says he's never seen anything like it, "The front door of my store it blew it open. I was like scared to death!"
Downed trees forced the closure of some nearby roads.
Power went out to homes and businesses in the area. Codey Martin from Fox's Pizza was packing coolers with ice but could take no orders in the dark. "We can't do anything right now," he said. "Pretty much dead in the water."
In Prospect, Butler County, a huge tree snapped in two and fell on to Kim Brown's home. Her two daughters were at home at the time, but fortunately no one was injured. Neighbors showed up with chainsaws to help in the clean-up.
