Stock Market May Be Best Bet For Super Bowl XLV
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The best bet for Super Bowl XLV may be Wall Street.
Stock analysts said the market brings double digit returns when either the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Green Bay Packers play in the big game.
Millions, possibly billions of dollars are wagered on the Super Bowl. But, some market analysts believe your money may be better off if it's placed on the stock market.
Every year the Steelers played in the Super Bowl, the market rang up huge gains. That's what Financial Advisor Rick Applegate is betting on this year.
"Every time the Steelers have been in, the seven times we've talked about, six wins, one loss, they've always had double digit returns that year," Applegate said.
Stock market analysts said on years that the Steelers are in the Super Bowl, the market is up an average of 25 percent.
When the Steelers win, the return is even higher. When Green Bay is in the Super Bowl, returns have an average of 24 percent.
"Green Bay's been in the Super Bowl four times, three wins, one loss and each of their appearances has been a positive for the market. So we can't lose," Applegate said.
Obviously there are no real connections between the Steelers and the performance of the stock market.
However, Applegate said this is a good time to invest in the market.
The economy is improving and we are in the third year of a bull market and the third year of a presidential term.
Those factors usually mean good returns. Though, any broker will tell you, past performance is no guarantee of future results.
