Steve Guttenberg Writes Bible, Criticizes President Obama

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) -- During the 1980s, Steve Guttenberg was one of the hottest actors in Hollywood, churning out hit after hit including the "Police Academy" series, "Three Men and a Baby," and "Cocoon."

Then, he seemed to disappear, only doing the occasional small parts. How did this Titan of Tinseltown fall so fast?

KDKA-AM's Larry Richert and John Shumway chat with Guttenberg about his new memoir, "The Guttenberg Bible," which talks about his career in Hollywood and how he ended up where he is today. Surprisingly, he isn't bitter and feels he is still blessed to have the opportunity to act.

Richert and Shumway also asked him about recent comments he made about President Barack Obama. Guttenberg said he wants to know about the president being at work to solve the problems that face many people in this country at the moment and doesn't want to see him on talk shows or on vacation.

"I love my president and I support my president and I believe in the presidency, but I'm not a fan of seeing my president on talk shows. I don't want to see my president on 'The View' and I don't want to see my president – as much as I love ['Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'] and I love Jimmy Fallon, I don't want to see the president on that show," Guttenberg said.

"We're in a tough time right now and psychologically and publicity-wise, I believe the president should be in the White House at the desk. I don't want to see him flying around and I don't want to know about him flying around on vacation. I don't want to see him playing Frisbee and I'm not alone in that. It's a really tough world out there, lots of people are out of work. I just don't want to see rich people having a good time right now and I would rather know that he's working or the illusion that he's at the desk."

"I'd like him to enjoy himself, I want him to rest, I want to know that they're raising money for him. I personally don't want to know that they're paying $40,000 a plate because I've got a friend who's making $7 an hour and he's struggling. It's just stuff that we shouldn't know. Plus, the White House is a great place. You can bowl, you can play on the lawn, you can swim. You don't need to go anywhere. It's all there for you."

Guttenberg also talks about his part in Larry's movie, "Shannon's Rainbow," and also gives a scathing critique of President Barack Obama.
