Steelers Wives Participate In Shopping Spree For Families In Need

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The wives of several Pittsburgh Steelers played Santa on Wednesday when they went on shopping sprees for families in need.

Armed with wish lists and $800 gift cards the wives dressed in black and gold and headed down the aisles at Sam's Club in the North Hills.

Latasha Wilson-Batch, wife of Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch was one of the women taking part.

She was assigned to shop for a family from Steel Valley.

"It takes a moment to think about wow, I'm really making a difference by just going shopping with a family," Wilson-Batch said.

The wives bought everything from everyday household items to video games to the biggest stuffed animal in the store.

Batch and the other wives know these presents will make Christmas morning special.

"I just love being able to give back. I mean we are so blessed and so fortunate and what good is that if we aren't able to give back? Especially, to our local community," Jonelle Foote said.

From Sam's Club, the gifts will be loaded onto a truck and taken to the Salvation Army's warehouse.

Closer to Christmas, they will be distributed to 20 families across Allegheny County.

"It's very humbling to see some of the things that the families ask for, you know things like sheets and the simple things like toothpaste that we take for granted every day. So, it's very humbling and it's just great that we are able to help those families out in a time of need," Foote said.

NFL wives in 10 other cities all around the country also shopped for families in need today in their communities.
