Steelers Weigh In On Dolphins' Bullying Controversy
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Offensive lineman Richie Incognito has broken his silence.
The Miami Dolphins suspended him for his treatment of teammate Jonathan Martin, who was born here in Pittsburgh.
"You know what, I'm just trying to weather the storm right now, and this will pass," Incognito said.
Incognito allegedly bullied Martin and left a racial and expletive-laden message on Martin's voice-mail.
The NFL is investigating.
On Wednesday, Steelers players were asked about the situation in Miami.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says that as an older guy on the team, he feels he has a responsibility to look out for those kinds of things.
"Honestly, as long as I've been here we've never really had any issues with stuff like that. I know when I was younger, you heard around the league guys getting taped to goal posts. Around here, it's more getting breakfast, getting lunch, things like that," he says.
Safety Ryan Clark says it's important for everyone to feel comfortable.
"I think we do a very good job of policing that here and making sure guys feel comfortable. Making sure guys do understand the things you have to go through that everybody else went through, but also understanding that we're more big brothers, not slave drivers," he said.
Head Coach Mike Tomlin told the press Tuesday that the Steelers have procedures set in place to prevent excessive hazing or harassment.
