Steelers Wear Throwback Jerseys To Honor Flozell Adams
FORT WORTH, Texas (KDKA) -- The media frenzy that comes with the Super Bowl has already begun in north Texas.
And as the Steelers gear up for the big week, they honored teammate Flozell Adams who spent 13 seasons playing for the Dallas Cowboys.
"It's special to bring back the throwbacks and for all the guys to wear it and, you know, they're still walking around here with them on, so it feels kind of good to have them have the jerseys on and everything and I'm grateful for it," he told reporters.
Ben Roethlisberger said the jerseys are a sign of respect.
"I know they did it for Jerome when we went to Detroit – wore Jerome's jersey – so a guy I think we all respect because he's been doing it for such a long time and being able to come back to Dallas I know really means a lot to him," he said.
What would really mean a lot to him is to win a Super Bowl. Hines Ward knows Adams is learning about the "Steeler way" and how it's different from everybody else's way.
"Every day we get an opportunity to walk in our organization and see six Lombardi trophies – expectations are very high in Pittsburgh," Ward said. "I remember winning the second Super Bowl and the very next day, 'Are we going to win it again next year?' That's how high expectations are.
"So every year we go into training camp – that's all we preach about is the Super Bowl. Some teams can talk about the Super Bowl, but there's pretenders. Every year we have a legitimate chance of making it to the playoffs and we all know once you get in the playoffs, you make a run, you get an opportunity to go to the Super Bowl."
