Steelers' Wallace Praises Ben, Shares The Blame
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Steelers receiver Mike Wallace was contrite following their 34-24 stinker against San Diego Sunday afternoon, though perhaps time will only tell if it's good enough for those at Heinz Field who booed him loudly in defeat.
"I've got to catch that, that's all there is to it," said Wallace, who missed a deep throw in the second quarter that could have impacted the game. "Playmakers make plays. Ben gave me a shot, and I've got to come up with it."
He was targeted 11 times in total, and led the team with seven catches, 112 yards, and two TD's. But he's acutely aware of the perception that this Steeler team sinks to the level of its competition too often, and he believes it needs to be addressed.
"When a team goes up 20-3, we obviously don't have enough urgency or consistency," he said. "We have to pick it up. We have to."
Wallace said a now-healthy Ben Roethlisberger, who defended Wallace against disgruntled fans, did his best to pick up the offense.
"I think he played a great game. Ben was Ben, and we didn't expect anything else from Ben. Every time he's on the field, he gave us 120-percent effort. He did a great job leading us today. We just have to follow."
