Steelers Recall Favorite Holiday Memories
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Ask most Steelers for their Christmas wish and it will probably be to avoid a losing season.
But there will be plenty of time for working on that tomorrow.
It's not surprising that among men who make their living playing a sport, that for some dreams of sports are a part of Christmas memories.
"Growing up as a kid, we didn't have much money, man, but my mom always got us a football or basketballs," Marquis Pouncy said. "That was the main thing at our house."
"I don't want anyone to get mad at me, but I was a Philadelphia Eagles fan growing up and I got the whole helmet and shoulder pads and the ball and I got that whole equipment set and I wore it every day," Issac Redman said.
But the boys who would one day become Steelers were far from sports myopic, when it comes to the best Christmas ever.
"I think probably I got this G.I. Joe hovercraft thing I could take in the bath with me it was really big cool so I think that was probably my favorite," Ben Roethlisberger said.
Doug Legursky also recalled one of his favorite Christmas memories.
"I remember this one Christmas when I got a yo-yo, but it wasn't just any yo-yo, it was called the X Brain it was like the best yo-yo ever you could do a lot of cool stuff with it. that was a pretty good Christmas," he said.
Of course now, many who play on one of the biggest stages in the country go home to tiny fans who simply call them dad and that has given new meaning to the spirit and joy of Christmas.
"Seeing my kids on Christmas, I'll be excited to see them they are getting a little bit older so they have a better understanding of what Christmas, I guess, is about for kids so I'm excited to see that," Heath Miller said.
