Steelers' LB Larry Foote: 'We Better Be Pissed Off'
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Steelers linebacker Larry Foote joined The Fan Morning Show on Wednesday, a day after re-signing with the team in free agency.
Foote explained that he was anxious as the free agent process began to reach full steam, but is glad that it all worked out in the end.
"It started off Saturday," Foote said. "Agents start talking to other teams. Pittsburgh was just playing the game, they made me sweat a little bit. And yesterday morning, when I was talking to some of the guys as we were negotiating our contracts, I was just laughing, like, 'You guys couldn't get this done Saturday?'"
"Over the weekend, when numbers were getting tossed around, I'm like, 'holy moly! I gotta start pumping myself up that I'm going somewhere else.' But after that settles down, the worry and the anxiety will kick in. So, we were fighting for a couple extra dollars, going back and forth, but ultimately I got what I wanted, and they're getting what they wanted, so it worked out," Foote said.
He told the guys that he actually didn't expect the team to release James Harrison.
"I kind of was upbeat about it, thinking they were going to get it done," Foote said. "So, I was surprised when they didn't."
Foote explained that he doesn't buy into any of the locker room turmoil rumors that were going around during the offseason.
"That was never an issue. I think that was overblown by the media," Foote said. "We've always been a tight-knit family, and we're going to remain that way."
However, he does feel that the team needs to re-focus and be ready to step up its game next season.
"We better be pissed off," Foote said. "I mean, what kind of motivation do you need? You just saw your rival go win the Super Bowl while you're at home watching. We know we're just as good as those teams. But we just got to go out there and prove it."
