Steelers Fans Weigh In On Rainey's Arrest

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Chris Rainey is out as a Pittsburgh Steeler. The team waived him after his arrest in Florida.

Rainey, a running back, was drafted last year. Now, he is without a team after being accused of scuffling with, and allegedly slapping, his girlfriend in front of several witnesses.

Many Steelers fans agree, he should be sacked.

"Real men don't do that to women," said Bev Stern, a Steelers' fan.

"It seems to be the Steelers way. We got rid of Santonio Holmes when that seemed to be a problem," added Matej Tomas, another Steelers fan. "We got rid of Jeff Reed when he caused a problem."

But this action came instantly.

A statement from Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert just hours after Rainey's arrest says: "Chris Rainey's actions this morning were extremely disappointing. Under the circumstances and due to this conduct, Chris will no longer be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers."

But it has left some fans wondering why Alameda Ta'amu is still on the team.

Last October, Ta'amu was accused of driving under the influence on the South Side. Four cars were damaged, a woman was injured and Ta'amu is charged with nearly running down officers.

"Children respect these players. They view them as role models and that's not a role model," Stern said.

Still, others worry about a culture in the NFL that's out of control for some players.

"They've gotten caught up into the lights, the money, the fame and they forgot what their first love was," says Jesse Spencer, another Steelers fan. "Their first love was football."
