Steelers Faithful Gear Up For Game With "Break The Broncos" Rally
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The rallying cry of Steelers Nation was heard loud and clear today as Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh hosted a "Break the Broncos" pep rally downtown ahead of this weekend's Wild Card playoff matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos.
As always, the rally was held at noon around the Terrible Tree in the courtyard of the Allegheny County Courthouse on Grant Street.
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl also declared it a "Black & Gold Day."
There was music, a Steelers trivia challenge and the decorating of the Terrible Tree.
Pittsburghers two favorite colors were also worn proudly at the rally, just days away from the battle against the Broncos.
"I'm excited for the game and very, very confident that they will pull off a victory," said one fan.
This time last year our playoff picture was a little different. We had a bye during the Wild Card round and went into the divisional playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens with little injuries.
This time around, the Steelers have several injured players and missed the shot to sit this week out.
When it comes to the Steelers, fans believe that classic saying holds true: what doesn't kill them, only makes them stronger.
"Being 12- 4, and going against an 8- 8, and them getting home field advantage, and you figure we got three teams in our division that made the playoffs this year, so it's a real different scenario," said another fan.
"Ben with that limp, and everyone else being out - it's going to be difficult, but we'll make it," added one fan. "We've made it before."
"They do have some setbacks, but I think that the depth on the team, you know, these guys come prepared," another fan said. "The Steelers have always had a great, prepared team and I think they're going to do great."
The confidence is there among the fans, and those who won't be able to make it to Denver this weekend say that the Steelers will be able to hear their cheers.
Fans were also encouraged to bring a canned good, non-perishable food item or cash donation to support the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
