Steelers Enjoy Night Practice As Much As Fans
LATROBE (KDKA) -- Fans crowded around the fence at Latrobe Memorial Stadium Friday evening as the Steelers arrived for their annual night practice.
Sharon Fasce of Latrobe was so excited to get an autograph from Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger that she could barely talk.
Steeler safety Ryan Clark says it's just as thrilling for players to meet the fans.
For newly-signed Steelers guard John Malecki, who grew up in Murrysville, this was a dream come true. He says he used to be on the other side of the fence watching Steeler legends, and now he's giving autographs.
Malecki's parents, John and Angela, were also thrilled to see their son. Angela even got her son to sign her jersey.
Some of the Steelers will have an early call Saturday morning.
About a dozen of them are expected to be at Heinz Field for filming of the new "Batman" movie. They will play members of a team called the Gotham Rogues. Part of the list includes Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Troy Polamalu, James Farrior, Mike Wallace, Heath Miller, Aaron Smith, Clark, Willie Colon, Maurkice Pouncey and Casey Hampton.
Linebacker LaMarr Woodley says he's definitely a "Batman" fan and hopes to be in the film.
Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher was also at the practice and says he's reporting to Heinz Field for the movie shoot as well. He says he hopes to maybe even have a line in the film.
The practice ended with a Zambelli fireworks display.
