Steelers, Co-Workers Offer New Heinz Field P.A. Announcer Larry Richert Advice
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) -- KDKA AM's very own Larry Richert officially starts his reign as P.A. announcer at Heinz Field for the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday, and everyone seems to have advice for him.
KDKA's John Shumway talks to a bunch of Steelers' players, and Larry's co-workers chime in on what advice they have for him.
Ben Roethlisberger wanted to make sure Larry gets the pronunciation of his last name just right!
"He's got a lot of people listening in and he should be very, very nervous actually. Actually, I think he should be shaking. I mean, that's just my opinion," the Steelers' quarterback said teasingly. "I think if I had to give him one piece of advice, it would be, practice 'Roethlisberger.' Don't screw that up because if I hear it, I'm going to find him, I going to look up there and give him a scowl."
And Ryan Clark offered up several tips!
"One 'don't' is, when one of us makes a tackle or it's a gang of us, to say things like 'Ziggy Hood and company,' on the tackle. Cause, you know, you say Ziggy Hood and maybe one other name, and then you kind of let it go. Also, offensively, you need a lot of excitement on the first down. You want to get the crowd involved in what you're trying to say, make it more like crowd participation on the first down," said Clark. "Also, it'd be cool if he has something for like big plays on defense, incomplete passes and when we get off the field on third down. And, slight enthusiasm, but can't seem overly biased."
Finally, KDKA's Marty Griffin said Larry will do just fine and doesn't need any advice from him.
"Larry's the king, please."
