PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown has been cited for driving in excess of 100 mph on McKnight Road.
There was a the "trade me" tweet, the Miami apartment thing, and now a traffic stop along McKnight Road for going more than twice the speed limit. It has just not been a good year off the field for Brown.
His situation on McKnight Road actually started with something he wasn't involved in or had any control over. Here's how it went down including police radio chatter.
"McCandless start for WesBanco on Duncan Avenue for a robbery," came the dispatch just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
A man walked into the bank with a hoodie up over his head, demanded cash from a teller and left. When police arrived they got the description of the suspect and put it out the police radio: "White male 25-30 years of Nike sweatshirt orange with maroon sleeves and blue jeans."
But the suspect fled on foot and there was no vehicle description. Ross Township Police took up positions along McKnight Road to watch for anyone looking like they were trying to get away.
"Gonna stage up at McKnight and Babcock in case he goes south on McKnight," one officer reported.
He wasn't there long when his next call came in: "47 County, I have a Porche going south on McKnight in excess of 90."
Another officer asked for his location, and he responded, "At lower end passing Nelson Run, I'm never going to catch 'em."
Seconds later, "Passing the Intown speeds to a hundred."
Three other police officers were rushing south on McKnight to back him up when the Porche suddenly pulled over.
The first officer reporting the stop, "Stopped. Westview Avenue, one inside."
The other officers arrived, everyone thinking it could potentially be the bank robber, until they saw the driver.
The first officer called dispatch: "47 County, I'm 10-4, it's going to be Antonio Brown."
Most of the officers left at that point, leaving the two remaining Ross Township officers to complete the traffic stop. Brown sat quietly in his car while he was written up for reckless driving over 100 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour speed zone.
As the officer handed the Steelers wide receiver his ticket, he advised Brown about the bank robbery and how his speed caught their attention. He was advised to slow down.
Steelers Spokesman Burt Lauten issued this comment for the team: "We are aware of the situation, but we are still gathering information. We won't have any further comment at this time."
Brown's wallet won't take much of a hit if he pleads guilty. The ticket is $200 and with court costs it comes to $316.50. However, he could also lose his license for six months.
No word on where he was going at that speed.
