State Police To File Charges In Fiery Route 28 Crash
HARMAR TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- State police say they plan to file charges against a woman following a fiery crash, in which a vehicle fell into a ditch and then overturned, on Route 28 in Harmar Township early this morning.
According to state police, 46-year-old Renee Nacy of Creighton suffered minor injuries in the accident. She was the only person in the vehicle.
The crash happened just before 1 a.m. on the northbound side of Route 28 near Exit 12.
Police say Nacy's Kia Optima was headed north when she failed to negotiate a curve, left the east side of the road and dropped down into a two-foot ditch.
The vehicle continued traveling along the hillside, then rode along the guardrail and eventually overturned onto its driver's side, authorities said. The vehicle traveled back onto the road where it overturned onto its roof.
According to state police, that's when the vehicle began sliding along the roadway, burst into flames and ended up back on its wheels against a concrete divider.
State police say two troopers saw the crash happen and ran over to put the fire out and rescue anyone inside.
While trying to put out the fire, state police say the troopers spotted the driver walking away from the scene on the side of the road.
Nacy was taken to Allegheny General Hospital as a precaution. State police say lab results there "revealed a BAC greater than the legal limit of 0.08 percent."
Investigators say charges will be filed in the case.
