State Police: Suspects Use Stolen Checks To Steal From Wal-Mart
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police are trying to figure out who stole hundreds of dollars from some local Wal-Mart stores.
According to investigators, the suspects did it by using stolen checks, and then returning the merchandise.
Authorities say their faces were caught on camera.
"We do have several very good surveillance photos that we have sent out," said Trooper Stefani Plume, of the Pennsylvania State Police Uniontown Barracks.
Police are looking for at least three people accused of passing stolen checks at two Wal-Marts in Fayette County.
The first happened at the Uniontown Wal-Mart, and three others at the Connellsville Wal-Mart. Police say the total take away was just over $600.
"Basically, what would occur is the checks would be used; they would purchase items," said Trooper Plume. "Then, about a half an hour later, they would return to the store, return the items to customer service, at which point customer service would then give them a refund in cash for the items that were returned. They would take the cash, and then leave the area."
Police are now hoping someone will recognize the suspects and the darker-colored getaway car they were driving.
If you think you know who these suspects are, call the Fayette County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-404-TIPS.
