State Police Searching For Serial Storage Unit Burglar
SALEM TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- State Police are looking for a man who is breaking into storage units in Somerset and Westmoreland counties.
According to investigators, the suspect is focusing on locks he thinks he has a chance of opening easily, but while doing so, he's been caught on surveillance cameras.
"You can clearly see him going from one unit to the next to the next. He's there for like 20 minutes stealing items out of storage units," said Trooper Steve Limani, of Pennsylvania State Police. "He know which ones he can get through and which ones he can't. It's like he's done so many, he's completely comfortable doing what he's doing."
Trooper Limani says about "a dozen storage facilities have been broken into" recently.
That includes units in Salem Township. Investigators say his MO is simple, cut the lock, pull the door up and steal the stuff inside.
"If he likes what's there, he takes it," said Trooper Limani. "He just keeps motoring right through them."
The suspect is believed to have ripped off thousands in merchandise.
"We have a, for lack of a better term, a serial storage burglar on the loose that's driving a candy apple red Chevy pickup truck," said Trooper Limani.

Police say that red truck is a Chevy S-10, specifically a 1994 or 1997 model.
