State Police Cracking Down After Recent Thefts At Wal-Mart
MOUNT PLEASANT (KDKA) -- Wal-Mart is an icon for bargain hunters, but it's also become a destination for shoplifters and petty thieves.
In security surveillance video from the Mount Pleasant megastore, a man is caught spending a lot of time allegedly detaching an electronic sensor from a laptop computer.
"Once he gets the device off, he leaves that area likely to see if someone is alerted," said Trooper Steve Limani, of the Pennsylvania State Police Greensburg Barracks.
The guy then returns, scoops up the boxed computer, puts it in his cart - along with a floor jack and smaller items - and rolls out of the store.
In another clip, a man allegedly waltzes right out of the store with a pricey pressure washer.
"We're hoping that with this high-quality surveillance footage that someone will recognize these individuals and call us," Trooper Limani said.
Trooper Limani believes this kind of activity will increase as the holidays near.
But just in case you're tempted to help fill Santa's list with a little larceny, you better watch out.
"And if you think you're going to go out there and steal stuff, if we catch you on video, we're going to put you on TV," Trooper Limani says.
