Star Wars R2-D2 Painted Jet To Take To The Skies
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Japan's All Nippon Airways is jumping on the Star Wars theme and announced that they will begin flying a Boeing jet painted to look like droid R2D2.
The company says the 787-9 Dreamliner will begin flying routes this fall.
The jet is part of a five-year Star Wars project the company is launching.
On the Japanese company's website the airways says, "With the skies as our stage, we are embarking on a range of novel initiatives as we head into the future. Expect a new world full of surprises.
The announcement comes on the same day that Star Wars unveiled the newest teaser to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The J.J. Abrams directed movie is slated to be released on December 18th.
The Force Awakens will be the first film in the planned third Star Wars trilogy announced after The Walt Disney Company's acquisition of Lucasfilm in October 2012.
The trailer premiered at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California.
