Star-Studded Exhibit To Open At Warhol Museum
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Artists from around the world, all inspired by Andy Warhol, will display their work in Pittsburgh.
A new show is opening at the Andy Warhol Museum this weekend called, "Regarding Warhol, Sixty Artists, Fifty Years."
"It looks at Warhol's vast influence on contemporary art production from 1962 when his Campbell soup can paintings first came out through to today," Eric Shiner said.
The works of art are scattered throughout the museum among Warhol originals.
The pieces are everything from paintings and sculptures to photographs and films and are all inspired by Warhol's work.
"He really radically changed what art means in society by taking something off a grocery store shelf or from the front page of the newspaper. Really regenerating what was in front of us always right there, but making it art," Shiner said.
Some of the highlights are a chainsaw on the 7th floor, made entirely of cardboard and another piece of work by well-known artist, Jeff Koons.
All of the artists included in the show are top-notch, the best of the best.
"These are what we in the art world would call blue chip artists. Those that are the most sought after, that achieve the highest prices at auction and of course, that's the fluff, but the real reason is they are really, really good," Shiner said.
This is the first time people will be able to see this art here in Pittsburgh. The pieces were taken from both public and private collections.
"I'm thrilled to be able to bring these things to Pittsburgh here to the Warhol Museum and to share them with our audience. It never happens. It's an incredibly rare chance and I'm elated," Shiner said.
The show opens on Sunday and runs through April.
