Staal Shines In Pens' 4-1 Preseason Win Over Blackhawks
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- Jordan Staal started a third period rally that led to the Penguins' 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in their second preseason game.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first period.
Michael Frolik gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead midway in the second period with a wrister that got past Brent Johnson who had nine saves.
Just under two minutes in the third, Staal tied it with wrist shot on a rebound.
At 10:42, Matt Cooke scored with assist from Craig Adams and Bryan Lerg. Tyler Kennedy, who had two assists, followed with another goal and Staal added his second goal for the 4-1 win.
The Pens had three power play opportunities, but did not convert one into a goal.
Chicago starting goaltender Alexander Salak stopped all eight shots he faced before giving way to veteran Ray Emery, who allowed four goals on 19 shots.
