Staal Set To Return To Pens' Lineup In Winter Classic

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - Just in time for the Winter Classic tonight over at Heinz Field, star forward Jordan Staal is set to return to the lineup for the Penguins.

According to the team's website, Staal is planning to play in the much-anticipated game.

He participated in the pregame skate Saturday morning over at the CONSOL Energy Center and said he would play tonight.

The excitement for the annual outdoor game has been building for weeks and the news of Staal's probable return adds more good news for Pens' fans.

It will mark his season debut for the team.

One of the NHL's best two-way forwards, Staal didn't miss a game to injury during his first four NHL seasons. However, he hasn't played since the Pens' Game 7 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the playoffs back in May.

Staal's right foot developed a series of infections after being cut in that series. Then, he broke his right hand in practice Nov. 1, just as he was ready to resume playing.

The Pens website reports that Staal is set to start on the fourth line but is expected to see some playing time with Evgeni Malkin.

Staal was a 2010 finalist for the Selke Trophy, given to the league's best defensive forward.
