Spirit Airlines Adds Flights From Latrobe To Dallas
LATROBE (KDKA) -- It's something you don't see every day at Latrobe Airport, three Spirit Airlines planes on the ground at once, and one of them is the inaugural flight to Dallas.
Passengers can now fly direct between Dallas and Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe.
"We had a great deal on airplane tickets and we're excited," said Erin Ventress, a passenger.
Already, the new route is a big hit.
"We only live 15 minutes from here, so very nice," Hannah Uebele, a passenger, said.
About 100 people arrived on the first flight from the Lone Star State. Another 100 then left on the first flight out.
The trip to Dallas will initially be available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
"When I think back to the beginning of the airport, and I've been here ever since and watched it grow, it is amazing what's happened in last 10 to 15 years," said Arnold Palmer, golf legend.
Spirit Airlines came to Latrobe about two years ago, and already offers service to Fort Lauderdale, Myrtle Beach and Orlando.
The Dallas flight will make it possible to book connecting Spirit flights to Las Vegas, San Diego and Phoenix.
And the possibilities don't stop there if you're willing to spend some extra time en route.
"This will open up everywhere, from Hawaii to Alaska to wherever you want to go because Dallas has those connections," Don Rossi, the airport board chairman, said.
The current Spirit flights have been wildly popular, and airport officials are hoping the airline will continue to add routes. So, what's coming next?
"You never know, right now focused on getting Dallas off the ground," said Misty Pinson, of Spirit Airlines.
All of these flights mean more passengers. The airport already added a jetway, and they are now making plans to expand the terminal.
