Southwest CEO: Airline Exploring 6 More Nonstop Destination Cities From Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Southwest Airlines is quickly becoming Pittsburgh's number one airline, after years in which U.S. Airways, acquired by American Airlines, dominated the market.
At least that's a claim Southwest can make in terms of the number of cities you can fly non-stop from here.
In Pittsburgh late Thursday, Southwest CEO Gary Kelly told KDKA money editor Jon Delano that Southwest hopes to expand that number of destination cities from Pittsburgh; although, it is not likely to happen next year.
Delano: "When you say more to come, what do you anticipate in the next year or so?"
Kelly: "I don't know that we will do a lot over the next year. I think as we look at the array of opportunities, it feels like we have 16 nonstop destinations right now. We've got a half a dozen on our list that we will continue to evaluate and we'll keep that a secret."

Kelly refused to disclose the names of those possible six other cities, but he did say he was pleased with the airport's performance in Pittsburgh, and that he expects continued growth in the years ahead.
