Firefighters Battle 5-Alarm Fire In Knoxville
KNOXVILLE (KDKA) – Firefighters were called to the scene of a five-alarm fire in the city's Knoxville neighborhood Saturday afternoon.
According to emergency dispatchers, the fire started at a home in the 400-block of Zara Street around 4 p.m.
The fire spread to a neighboring building and went to four alarms within 30 minutes.
"I was driving down the Parkway. I was coming from Homewood and I saw the smoke and I said, 'Where's that smoke coming from?' As I got closer, I saw that it was near my house," Minister Isacc Walton said.
In fact, by the time Walton arrived home, the fire had spread from one home to his.
"The most important thing is that nobody got hurt. Everybody is safe," he said.
A mother and six children were able to get out safely.
However, Pittsburgh firefighters had a tough time fighting the blaze. High heat and humidity made conditions on scene unbearable at times.
"I have two firefighters that were injured. One from heat exhaustion and the other I am not sure what the problem was, but he was transported I think to Mercy Hospital," Chief Darryl Jones said.
