South Side Bar Closes Following Weekend Shooting
SOUTH SIDE (KDKA) – A bar on the South Side has been closed pending further agreement following a shooting over the weekend.
A man is continuing to recover after being shot in the back at District 3 Saturday morning.
Charles Anger, 24, was shot inside the establishment on East Carson Street and police are looking for three men who drove away from the scene.
City Councilman Bruce Kraus vowed to shut the nightclub down and that became a reality Monday afternoon.
The District Attorney's Office announced the closure in a statement:
"The District Attorney's Office today reached a preliminary agreement with the owners and or license holders of the District 3 establishment on Pittsburgh's South Side. Under this preliminary agreement, the establishment is closed today and will remain closed pending further agreement to transfer and or sell the liquor license to an independent third party who will then move the license out of the South Side."
On Saturday, police started a new tactic to disperse crowds on the South Side at 2 a.m. when the bars close.
A group of officers sounded their sirens in their cruisers in unison, creating such a loud noise that it broke up the crowds and forced everyone to leave.
"We just prefer that they get in their cars and clear out of the area and go home," Pittsburgh Police Commander Catherine McNeilly said. "There's no reason for them to be there."
Police say it's just one of the tactics they plan to use to get people out of the streets after the bars close.
