Stores Trying To Fill Toys 'R' Us Void On Black Friday

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Toys "R" Us was always a popular spot for Black Friday shoppers, but since all locations closed their doors this year, others are trying to take advantage of the void it left behind.
Lines formed outside of the Disney Store in the South Hills Village Mall on Friday morning before the store opened up.
Other stores offered toys, clothing and more featuring characters and designs from popular movies and TV series.
"We've got BoxLunch, which is a pop culture store. They've got some great unique toys that are really indicative of where people are paying attention to, cartoon figures," Jennifer Carroll, the South Hills Village director of marking, said.
A number of pop-up stores were also set up in the mall, offering more traditional toys like stuffed animals and puzzles.
Others were showing off electronics and gadgets.
"Honestly, traditional toys will always be in, but there are some great electronic options," Carroll said. "Even the game systems for little kids. You know, there's a lot of touch screen items and things that little children can enjoy too, learning systems that they can enjoy."
"[My son] is also into electronics. He has the little portable Fire [tablet]. He watches tutorials and videos and 'Just Dance' videos and then he dances," shopper Soigne Legacy said.
A PlayStation pop-up let shoppers try out the console's virtual reality goggles.
"Over the years, they've really been perfecting the headset and now it almost mimics reality as if you would see it right now. So you look around, you have the 360-degree view, you see it in three dimensions, and then the depth perception is exactly as it is in reality," Zac Bautista, with Sony PlayStation Virtual Reality Activation, said.
