PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A SWAT team was called to South Fayette after the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office said deputies heard a gunshot while serving an eviction notice.

The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office said deputies went to Oakridge Road to serve an eviction notice on Monday. Deputies said when they knocked on the front door, they heard a single gunshot from inside.

"At no time were any shots fired outside of the residence or in the direction of the deputies," a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said.

Deputies retreated and requested backup from the South Fayette police and Allegheny County police's SWAT unit. Authorities shut down the road and asked people to avoid the area.

When SWAT members made entry, the sheriff's office said they found a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Allegheny County police's homicide detectives are leading the investigation, and the sheriff's office said the medical examiner's office will make a final determination on cause and manner of death.
