"Soul Cafe" Hopes To Raise Money For Scholarships

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Some high school students could get a little help with college tuition from the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation.

The group is hosting a "Soul Café" this weekend in the Strip District, from which the proceeds will go to scholarships for high school students who participated in the PBMF's Frank Bolden Urban Journalism Workshop.

"The Soul Café is such an important program to our organization," PBMF President Tonita Davidson said in a statement. "Not only is it one of our biggest college scholarship fundraisers but, this year, we are celebrating 30 years of the journalism workshop. We're celebrating 30 years of taking great interest in the education of the young people in our community and we aren't finished yet."

The Soul Café will feature food, music and spoken word, in addition to a silent auction featuring work from local artists and gift certificates from local businesses.

Tickets for the event are $12 in advance, or $17 at the door.

It will take place Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at Roland's Seafood Grill.

You ca purchase tickets in advance at www.pbmf.org
