Some Trying To Profit Off Tickets For Paterno Memorial
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Thousands of people gathered in State College to see the funeral procession for Joe Paterno.
Penn state alumni, friends, family and Nittany Lions' fans of the Hall of Fame coach have already passed by his casket as the days of mourning continue.
As the grieving process is taking place, Penn State University is preparing for a massive public memorial Thursday. But some have put a price tag on free tickets trying to sell them on eBay.
"To make a profit off of this situation is a real shame and tarnishes a lot of good that was done," said Monica Lorish, a Penn State alum.
Penn state University spokesperson Lisa Powers said she had heard about tickets going for more than $90,000 on eBay.
Although the ads were being removed from eBay for violating a policy about selling tickets to events free to the public, Powers said in a statement: "It's reprehensible and repulsive. We have contacted eBay and they have been responsive. We are aware there are people trying to game the system. This should not be happening."
The topic had people calling into the 93-7 The Fan voicing their opinions as well.
"I wouldn't buy or sell tickets that were free. It's disgusting," said one caller.
"I think it's reprehensible to profit off of someone's misfortune," added another.
While Penn State says they're keeping in contact with eBay, trying to help monitor any new ticket ads that pop up, they're also concerned about scalpers showing up on campus trying to sell tickets.
