Some Jeannette Residents Dealing With Basement Flooding
JEANNETTE (KDKA) -- Public safety officials in Westmoreland County are on alert today after reports of some flooding in local homes.
The fire department in Jeannette was out early this morning on Cassett Street trying to help people clean up from some basement flooding.
They are some of the same homes that were affected by major flooding in 2009, but the issues they are seeing today are nowhere near the magnitude of what they saw then.
One woman says she had about nine inches of water in her basement this morning, and that has caused her to lose several appliances including dryer.
"It's a mess, water everywhere," she said. "We might have lost our water tank too."
Crews were using hoses to pump water from basements back into a nearby stream.
Westmoreland County public safety officials say they have had reports of about 20 homes with flooding county-wide.
They are continuing to monitor the situation with all of the rivers, creeks and streams in the area.
