Snow Causing Problems On Roads
SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Snow is already causing problems across our area this afternoon.
In Washington County, eight vehicles collided around 1:45 p.m. in a chain reaction crash along Interstate 79 southbound, just past the Racetrack Road exit.
A truck spun out in the median and drivers behind started slowing down too quickly for the weather conditions.
Jason Hollman watched in his rearview mirror as the woman in a minivan behind him tried to slow down.
"When they came up behind her, they just started smashing into her and I actually tried to accelerate to get away from it and I couldn't even get away from it and the whole crash started spinning behind me and caught up to me," he said.
Two people were taken to Washington Hospital. Paramedics said none of the injuries appeared to be serious. We are told as many as three of the vehicles will have to be towed from the scene.
While crews work to clear the scene, traffic is being restricted to one southbound lane in the area.
PennDOT is also reporting another multi-vehicle accident on southbound I-79 in which a tractor trailer jack-knifed just north of the Neville Island Bridge. One lane is open to traffic in the area of that crash.
