Snow Arrives, Winter Weather Advisory In Effect

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Snow is falling around the area and will continue to do so throughout the day.

Pittsburgh and much of Southwest Pennsylvania along with a large part of West Virginia and Maryland are under a Winter Weather Advisory through Wednesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The advisory is in effect for the following counties in Pennsylvania:

Allegheny, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland

According to KDKA-TV Meteorologist Ron Smiley, Pittsburgh can expect to see about 2-4 inches of falling snow with 2-3 inches of accumulation.

At this point, it looks like the heaviest of the snow should fall before 3 p.m. on Tuesday with more scattered snow showers expected as we head into the overnight hours. Wednesday could see an additional inch of snow on the ground for the day with most falling before 7 a.m.

Areas south of the city can expect more snow with up to 5 inches along the West Virginia state line.

Satellite imagery, along with local radar, is clearly showing the big spin associated with an upper level low that is tracking by through Thursday.

Cold chilly weather, overcast skies and snow showers should be expected as it tracks by.  It should clear the area by Thursday afternoon leaving us snow-free through Friday.

The weekend, including Valentine's Day, will be frigid with highs maybe not even reaching the mid-teens.
